HIKING TRAILS:

Thredbo offers a variety of hiking trails that cater to different skill levels and preferences. Whether you’re seeking panoramic views, alpine adventures, or serene nature walks, there something for everyone. Let’s explore some of the best hiking trails:

  1. Eagles Nest to Kosciuszko Summit:

    • Difficulty: Moderate

    • Distance: Approximately 8.1 miles (13 km)

    • Starting Point: Eagles Nest (at the top of Thredbo’s Kosciuszko Express chairlift)

    • Description: This iconic hike takes you through the Alpine region of Kosciuszko National Park to the summit of Mount Kosciuszko, Australia’s highest peak. The last section before the summit can be challenging, especially in winter when snow and wind chill factor come into play. However, the views from the top are absolutely worth it!
       

  2. Kosciuszko Walk: Thredbo to Mount Kosciuszko:

    • Difficulty: Hard

    • Distance: Approximately 12.8 miles (20.6 km)

    • Description: Another route to the top of Mount Kosciuszko, this hike offers spectacular views of the Australian Alps. The last 800 meters can be tough, especially during winter, but the transition from landscape to snow is magical.
       

  3. Merritt’s Nature Trail:

    • Difficulty: Hard

    • Distance: Approximately 4.8 miles (7.7 km)

    • Starting Point: Near the Kosciuszko Express Bottom Station

    • Description: Enjoy this hike through Kosciuszko National Park. The well-maintained trail leads to the Kosciuszko Express Top Station, where you’ll find the Eagle Nest Cafe. Steady elevation and beautiful scenery make this a rewarding hike.
       

  4. Dead Horse Gap Walking Track:

    • Difficulty: Hard

    • Distance: Approximately 6.5 miles (10.5 km)

    • Starting Point: Near Alpine Way (Thredbo River and Bogong Creek intersection)

    • Description: A quiet trail through Kosciuszko National Park, this hike connects with the Kosciuszko Walking Trail. It’s a challenging route with rewarding views.
       

  5. Thredbo River Track:

    • Difficulty: Moderate

    • Distance: Approximately 5.4 miles (8.7 km)

    • Description: This easy and beautiful hike winds through the national park. Enjoy the serene surroundings and immerse yourself in nature.
